Can I bring my dog to TMS?

Yes!

For many of us, our dogs are more than just pets—they’re beloved companions who provide emotional support and comfort. It’s no surprise that some people might want to bring their well-behaved dog to a TMS treatment if they believe it will help them feel more at ease. As long as your dog is calm and won't distract you, bringing them along can make a world of difference in reducing anxiety and fostering a sense of calm.

However, not every dog is suited for this kind of environment, and it’s important to make sure that your dog will be comfortable, too. Your dog must be calm and fully house-broken. He or she needs to be able to sit unattended for up to 18 minutes: you will need to be sitting still, and our technicians will be fully focused on you so they can't be distracted by focusing on your pup as well.

A well-behaved dog can be an amazing asset during treatment, providing a sense of companionship and even boosting overall well-being. If you don't have a dog (or yours doesn't travel), we have Milo the Therapy Dog, a weighted stuffed animal with calming sensory elements.

By choosing the right companion—whether it's your own dog or our trusty stuffed therapy dog—you can truly enhance your treatment experience. Just remember to always ensure your pet won’t cause disruptions, and you’ll be well on your way to having a more comfortable, healing journey with your furry friend by your side.

As someone who's benefited from TMS, I appreciate the option to bring calming companions, but what precautions are taken to ensure the dog's presence doesn't interfere with treatment efficacy?

There's no reason any companion, furry or not, would interfere with treatment as long as they allow the patient to sit still for 18 minutes and not feel any added stress. If your dog needs more constant attention than that, it might not be the best idea. But if they can sit calmly for 18 minutes (with the occasional pet from our treaters), then there's no issue with them being in the room with you (or on your lap if small enough). TMS treatment is extremely localized, with no impact from the magnetic field on any object greater than 10 cm away from it.
